PhD Project

  • Provisional title: Metamaterials in room acoustics
  • Abstract: Phononic crystals and acoustic metamaterials characterize by properties that do not occur in nature. These include, for instance, negative density and young’s modulus. During the research of the last twenty years, acoustical lenses with a particularly narrow focal point or high absorption in subwavelength frequency ranges were made possible. Targeted interference of a sound wave by such a structure could thus make it possible to optimize the sound field at a listening position in a recording studio or concert hall.
