Dr. Seb Silas is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Systematic Musicology, University of Hamburg. His research investigates how musical information is perceived, remembered, learned, and transmitted across different contexts. Combining approaches from music psychology, systematic musicology, cognitive science, and computational modelling, he studies topics including melodic cognition, playing by ear, musical memory, singing, sonic branding, and musical similarity. His work aims to understand how the properties of musical stimuli interact with human cognition to shape musical behaviour and experience. Alongside his academic research, he has worked as a data scientist and consultant for the sonic branding agency SoundOut and has taught Psychology of Music at BIMM University. He has received scholarships from the DAAD and the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes, and was awarded the Douglas C. West Advertising Creative Article Award for his research in sonic branding.
